When you’re a freelance writer or a freelancer in any other field, you will know that you need to be able to sell yourself. Because work is not always just going to land in your lap. Sure, sometimes it will. You’ll get the email or the LinkedIn connection or whatever else that makes your day. But that very rarely happens. Instead, you need to make sure that you’re working on marketing as much as possible and that you’re asking to be heard. Because it’s very easy to undersell yourself or to not even try and sell yourself at all. And that really does need to change! So let’s take a look at the things you can do to shout louder and start selling yourself a lot more.
1. Brand Yourself
First of all, you need to make sure that you’re branding yourself properly and professionally as a freelancer. Because if you want to up your game and look like the expert and talented freelancer that you are, you need to have a brand in place. So hire a designer and get that brand built! Make sure that you are representing yourself in the way you want to be seen.
2. Harness SEO
The next thing that you need to make sure that you’re ding, is embracing SEO. Because it’s not enough to just have a website. You have to make it work for you. And this is where SEO is going to come in. If you’re not really sure that you’re doing it right, then you can hire someone for this. But you don’t have to, because you can use keywords and link building to your advantage here.
The next thing you need to do here, is to make sure that you are also advertising yourself and what you’re doing. For this, maybe you even want to think about paid options on social media to really emphasize what you’re doing, but also listing your website on freelancer sites so that you can be found that way.
4. Utilize Social Media
Now, it’s safe to say that you’re probably already working with social media, right? But are you shouting loud enough? Are you using it as much – and as well – as you can be? Perhaps not. So, it might be that you need to really up your game with social media in order to land better clients for your business. So really come up with a concrete social media strategy that can change this for you.
5. Ask For The Work
But most importantly of all, you need to make sure that you’re actually asking for the work. Because if you’re not pitching and asking for the work, then you’re missing a trick. You need to be pitching and pitching often and pitching as much as you can. Because you have to keep shooting and aiming in order to land the work. So go out there and ask for it – make your intentions known and show how much value you can bring.
